COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Children ages 13 to 18 in military families are invited to apply in a nationwide search for Operation Homefront‘s 2018 Military Child of the Year Awards.

Recipients of the awards will receive a $10,000 cash award, a trip to the nation’s capital, and donated gifts, as well as an excellent bullet point for their resumes.

There are seven awards. Six representing a branch of the armed forces in which a parent serves — Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard — and recognize recipients for their scholarship, volunteerism, leadership and extracurricular involvement.

The seventh award — the Military Child of the Year Award for Innovation — goes to a military child who has designed a bold and creative solution to address a local, regional or global challenge. The award recipient will work with a Booz Allen Hamilton team to develop a plan to scale the recipient’s project, drawing on technology and strategic thinking as part of the corporation’s competitive Summer Games.

Applications are accepted through December 4. Students can apply for the Innovation award or anyone can nominate a deserving child for a service branch award. To nominate or view applications, visit MilitaryChildoftheYear.org.
