PUEBLO, Colo. — Authorities are searching for a 65-year-old man from Pueblo West who went missing while fishing at Lake Pueblo early Sunday.

According to officials, two witnesses said they saw a shoreline fisherman go underwater while fishing on the lake and called 911 around 7:11 a.m.

Authorities say the man had caught a fish which dragged his pole underwater. The man went after his fishing pole and never resurfaced.

The fishing pole was found with a large carp still on it, according to officials, but the fisherman has not been located.

Authorities said the area where he went missing is about 30 to 35 feet deep.

A sonar and dive crew has made two unsuccessful dive attempts in “murky water” as of Sunday afternoon. Officials say the visibility for divers is about six inches.

Flight for Life was called in to assist with the rescue by searching overhead for any signs of the missing man.

The man’s wife and daughter are present at the scene but have not commented to media at this time.

Right now all visitors are asked to avoid the area west of the Wildlife Boat Ramp as the search continues.
