Police investigating report of explosive found at Stratus apartments

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 28, 2017) — Police are investigating a report of a possible explosive found at the Stratus Apartments Wednesday night.

Colorado Springs police and the Regional Bomb Squad responded to the apartment complex located in the corner of Murray and Airport around 4:45 p.m.

As of 9 p.m. Monday residents are slowly being allowed back in their homes.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE (July 10, 2017): An investigation determined the explosive was an “elaborate hoax device.” The suspect, 29-year-old Mykel Crete, was arrested and charged with possession/use of an explosive/incendiary/hoax device, which is a felony.
