Grand Junction pastor goes missing while searching for hidden treasure in New Mexico

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Authorities say a Grand Junction pastor went missing in New Mexico while he was searching for a famous hidden treasure.

New Mexico State Police Lt. Elizabeth Armijo confirmed family members told authorities that Paris Wallace, the lead pastor of Connection Church, had come to the Española area to search for a chest of gold rumored to be hidden in the mountain, according to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel.

The rough terrain around Española is the southernmost territory targeted by adventurous individuals seeking the treasure of Forrest Fenn, an author who announced back in 2010 he had a chest full of gold and jewels worth at least $1 million hidden somewhere in the Rocky Mountain.

Those seeking the treasure say clues are hidden in Fenn’s work.

No one has been in contact with Wallace since last Tuesday. His wife reported him missing to authorities after he missed a meeting with someone Wednesday.
