COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police are investigating after a bicyclist was hit by a car in Colorado Springs Monday afternoon.

It happened just before 1 p.m. at the intersection of E. Yampa Street and N. Circle Drive.

An investigation revealed the bicyclist was headed westbound on Galley and tried to cross the intersection against a red light.

Police say the bicyclist was able to dodge northbound-traveling cars but was hit by a car headed south.

The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Police say the people inside the car that hit the bicyclist were not injured.

At this time speed is not considered a factor in the crash. Drugs and/or alcohol have not been ruled out, police say.

The investigation is ongoing.
