COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A little piece of something uniquely Colorado went on display Monday night at the Broadmoor.

It’s the ship’s crest for the USS Colorado. These crests are displayed on uniform patches for the ship’s crew and ship’s plaques. The first commanding officer has the responsibility and distinction of selecting the design of the crest.

The crest is contained within the silhouette of the head of a charging mustang, symbolizing the determined nature of the state.

The USS Colorado was a Navy battleship in service from 1923 to 1947.
