One suspect arrested, another still wanted for weekend homicide in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police have identified two suspects in a weekend shooting that killed one person and injured another.

The shooting happened just before 8 p.m. at a home on Carmel Drive near Monterey Road. The victim who died has been identified as Marcus Williams, 21, of Colorado Springs. Police said he died of a gunshot wound.

Warrants were issued for two suspects in connection with the shooting. Richard Allon Spanks, 25, and Haywood Eugene Miller Jr., 24, were both wanted on first-degree murder charges. Miller has been arrested, but as of Wednesday morning, police are still “aggressively looking” for Spanks.

Spanks should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 719-444-7000, or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867).

Police said this is the 19th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 24 homicides.
