Give! Happy Cats Haven

Happy Cats Haven is holding a Purr Me a Story event December 11 and is looking for kids who want to join in.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Happy Cats Haven helps find forever homes for abandoned cats and kittens in the Pikes Peak Region.

The organization is about to celebrate its fifth year in operation and its 1,800th adoption.

The shelter currently has about 25 to 30 cats waiting for families and another 50 or so waiting in foster care.

“We give not only our cats the gift of time but we give our adopters the gift of time too,” said director Sara Ferguson. “They can spend all the time that they need in the colonies to hang out with them.”

Happy Cats Haven relies heavily on its volunteers to help care for and socialize the cats.

“When cats come into shelters, it’s a really traumatizing experience for them. It can take days to weeks for them to show their true personalities,” said Ferguson.

Money raised in the Indy Give campaign will go to feed and care for the cats as well as maintain the shelter. Ferguson said the organization receives no government support and relies on funding from individuals and grants. Ferguson said 87 percent of the funding they receive goes directly to the cats.
