CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — The driver who hit and killed a Colorado State Patrol trooper on northbound Interstate 25 Friday afternoon has been arrested and is facing multiple charges.

Trooper Cody Donahue was investigating another crash near the Tomah Road exit around 1:50 p.m. when he was hit and killed by a truck.

The driver of the truck, 41-year-old Noe Gamez-Ruiz of Denver, was arrested shortly after the crash, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with careless driving resulting in death (a class one misdemeanor) and failure to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle. Deputies said he posted bond early Saturday morning and is no longer in custody.

The sheriff’s office said Gamez-Ruiz was driving a commercial box truck belonging to U.S. Foods when he hit Donahue. He remained on the scene until emergency responders arrived.
