Trooper hit, killed while investigating crash on I-25 south of Castle Rock

LARKSPUR, Colo. — A Colorado State Patrol trooper was killed in a crash on northbound Interstate 25 south of Castle Rock Friday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Trooper Cody Donahue, a father of two and an 11-year veteran of the Colorado State Patrol. He was assigned to the Castle Rock office.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 1:50 p.m. Donahue was investigating another crash with a second trooper when he was hit and killed by a passing truck.

Deputies said a criminal investigation is ongoing.
