COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A number of nonprofits were out near the Marion House on Thanksgiving, handing out supplies to the homeless.
One organization handed out gloves and Thanksgiving cards made by children. Expanding Minds Unlimited has a museum and education center that works with children of all school districts. The children wrote out cards for the homeless, saying Happy Thanksgiving.
“This is our opportunity to help more and more people that are less fortunate or going through transitional changes as many people are, and help lift them up, and help lift up the community here in Colorado Springs,” Daniel Riedel of Expanding Minds Unlimited said.
The organization works to volunteer and help the homeless by giving out supplies at least once a month. An estimated 1,300 people are homeless in El Paso County.
