SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo. — A man is facing first-degree murder charges after he shot and killed his wife overnight, according to deputies.

It happened at a home in the area of Wilhelm Drive and Harrington Drive. Deputies said around 12:45 a.m., they got a call from a girl reporting a domestic violence situation in her home. She told deputies she had gotten out, but her younger sibling was still inside, along with the suspect and his wife.

When deputies arrived, they helped the younger sibling get out safely. They learned the suspect, 42-year-old Gregory Lorbiecki, was holding his wife hostage.

Deputies negotiated with Lorbiecki for about four hours, but he refused to allow his wife to come outside. Around 5:15 a.m., deputies from the SWAT team heard gunshots inside the home. They broke in and found the victim had been shot and killed. Lorbiecki surrendered without incident.

Lorbiecki is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and assault.

Deputies said they had responded to calls about domestic violence at the home several times in the past.

Neighbors’ homes were evacuated during the incident.
