VIDEO: Salida couple decorates home for annual Christmas musical light show

SALIDA, Colo. — Over 140,000 lights adorn the Gross home on Vista Circle in Salida, and the homeowners say the light display has become a family tradition.

“We have always loved Christmas,” said Dovie Gross. “We have always decorated and just really loved this time of year and we just wanted to give something back to the community.”

Dovie and her husband Bruce have been putting on the free musical Christmas light show from their home located at 7711 Vista Circle for the past 6 years.

The 20-minute show features lights all synchronized to music. This year, tunes include “Wizards in Winter” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra and “Silent Night” by Kelly Clarkson.

The husband-wife duo started putting up the display in July – with no extra helping hands. Dovie says she and her husband just want to spread the joy of the holiday season to those around them.

The community responded so well to the light show that the couple decided to purchase a radio frequency so visitors could watch the show but listen to it from their cars if the weather became inclement.

“We live on a dead-end, so there might be some traffic, but everyone makes it work,” she said.

The Gross’s place containers outside their home for donations which are taken to local food bank The Grainery.

The light show starts the day after Thanksgiving until January 2. It starts at 5 p.m. with the last show at 10:30 p.m.
