Missing teen hiker rescued near Rye

PUEBLO, Colo. — A Rye teenager who went missing after he fell while hiking Sunday has been safely rescued.

The 17-year-old hiker went missing after he fell while hiking on the Greenhorn Trail near Rye. Authorities say he sent a text to his family around 11 a.m. stating he had fallen and was injured.

Family who had gone out to search for him were unable to locate him.

The teen kept in contact with family members via text messages Sunday afternoon.

Rescuers found the teen just before 5:30 p.m. about two miles from the trail.

Authorities say he suffered a head injury but he was able to walk down the trail with rescuers.

He was taken to a local hospital later that evening to be checked for injuries.

Rescuers who aided in his rescue include members of the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Search and Rescue, Rye Fire Department, Beulah Fire Department, Custer County Search and Rescue, Colorado State University-Pueblo Search and Rescue sand Flight for Life.
