Give!: Court Care for the Pikes Peak Region

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Court Care for the Pikes Peak Region is Colorado’s only program offering families free onsite childcare while they are in court.

Often, sensitive or intimate details are discussed in courtrooms, and can be inappropriate for children. Because of Court Care, children in our community are offered a safe, fun space to be while parents attend to their legal matters.

“They shouldn’t see what goes in during a divorce proceeding between their parents,” Court Care co-president Jennifer Viehman said. “They shouldn’t see what happens sometimes when their parents are in trouble. They shouldn’t have to witness any of that. They shouldn’t have to see any of that. Kids should be kids and be allowed to play while adults take care of adult things in the courthouse.”

This month, Court Care anticipates hitting the milestone of having cared for 50,000 children since 2003. To commemorate this achievement, they’re aiming to raise $50,000 toward protecting the next 50,000 children who need childcare while parents are in court.
