Home invasion leads to manhunt in southeast Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police are looking for two suspects believed to be armed and dangerous Friday night in the area of Fountain Boulevard and Murray Boulevard.

According to authorities, they could be connected to a home invasion that happened Friday morning.

In that incident, three suspects stole two cars from a garage and held the victim at gunpoint. It happened on Whileaway Circle East, which is located near Murray Boulevard and South Carefree Circle.

“This is a broken world. There are some bad people in the world,” said Todd Hilkemann, a resident in that neighborhood.

It’s a place filled with kids playing in the street, so Hilkemann is shocked something like this happened.

“[It’s a] Terrifically safe neighborhood. We live on a cul-de-sac. Our kids right their bikes around the block all the time. We love our neighbors. Lots of kids. Some elderly folks too. A very safe neighborhood,” he said.

For Hilkemann, this was a wakeup call to be more vigilant.

“That’s a reason for us as neighbors to stick together, cause there’s far more people that are looking out for each other than are people that are trying to get one another, but its disconcerting, but what can I say? It happens. It happens,” said Hilkemann.

The police have released a description for one of the suspects sought Friday night. He is a black man in his late teens or early twenties and was last seen wearing a black sports jersey with the number 8 on it.

Earlier in the day, police found a suspicious car they think was involved in the home invasion, based on items in the car.

Police say they saw four suspects get into that car. Two were taken into custody for questioning.

If you know anything about this incident, call police immediately.
