COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The holiday season is just around the corner, and many will be traveling for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

To make sure flights are on time, the Colorado Springs Airport bought some new snow removal tools. The airport now has a total of 66 pieces of snow removal equipment to help clear runways, taxiways, sidewalks, and more.

With the addition of more tools, the time it takes to clear the runways will be cut in half — to less than 20 minutes.

The airport typically sees between 30 to 40 flights a day.

“This year the Colorado Springs Airport invested well over a million dollars in new snow removal equipment. And next year we plan to continue our preparations, and we budgeted about $700,000 for next year,” said Nate Lavin, public communications specialist at the Colorado Springs Airport.

The airport has a budget of $700,000 for next year’s winter preparations.

While they work to keep all runways clear of snow and ice in the winter, their priority is to keep at least one runway clear during heavy snowstorms.
