COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado Springs Utilities and Ace Hardware are teaming up to offer residents a discount on new, energy-efficient LED Christmas lights.

From now until December 23, residents can trade up to three old Christmas light strings for a coupon for 50 percent off select Celebrations by ACE Brand LED light sets.

The old lights will be recycled and funds will be donated to Project COPE, which helps families pay their utility bills.

Residents can exchange lights from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (except holidays) at the Conservation and Environmental Center at 2855 Mesa Road. The offer is good until December 23.

Alternatively, residents can take the lights to an exchange at an Ace Hardware store. The exchanges are from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the following dates:

December 9 – Circle – 1225 North Circle Drive
December 10 – Centennial – 4201 Centennial Boulevard
December 16 – Uintah – 1830 West Uintah Street
December 17 – Austin Bluffs – 3640 Austin Bluffs Parkway

CSU said LED lights are safer, sturdier, longer-lasting, easier to install, and use 90 percent less electricity than traditional Christmas lights.
