Man dies after being pinned between SUV, trailer in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash Wednesday night in Colorado Springs.

It happened just after 4 p.m. in the 3900 block of Springs Ranch Drive near the intersection at Pioneer Creek Drive.

According to authorities, a SUV collided with the rear of a parked trailer connected to a pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 38-year-old Mario Amaya of Aurora, was standing next to the trailer at the time of the accident. Police say he was pinned between the trailer and the SUV and died at the scene.

No arrests have been made at this time; the investigation is ongoing.

Police say alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in this crash.

This is the 29th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 24 traffic-related deaths.
