CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. — The Junkins Fire is now 100 percent contained.

Incident command issued a final update Saturday morning, estimating the final acreage at 18,403 acres.

Officials said 9 residences and 17 outbuildings had been destroyed. There was one reported injury.

Remaining crews are completing repair to fire lines and making plans for seeding to help mitigate erosion.

Officials said air reconnaissance flights over the past several days have confirmed the fire’s perimeter to be secure, but light to heavy smoke may still be visible at times and will remain in the area until enough precipitation completely extinguishes the fire.

Residents, tourists and hunters are advised to slow down and use caution if driving in the area as crews are still working to mitigate hazards along roadways.
