FORT CARSON, Colo. — Two soldiers from Fort Carson were killed Thursday in a joint U.S.-Afghan raid against the Taliban.
Capt. Andrew Byers, 30, and Sgt. 1st Class Ryan Gloyer, 34, were both killed.
Both soldiers were assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson.
Byers, who was from Rolesville, North Carolina, joined the Army in May 2008. He arrived at Fort Carson in July 2014. He deployed to Italy in 2009, the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2015, and Afghanistan in 2016.
Gloyer, who was from Denton, Pennsylvania, joined the Army in December 2004. He arrived at Fort Carson in January 2015. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2007 and again in 2009. He also deployed to the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2015.
Both soldiers have been posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
