Cimarron Street closed at I-25 all weekend for bridge demolition

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Cimarron Street will be closed under the Interstate 25 bridge this weekend.

The road will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. The closure is between the southbound I-25 ramps and Sierra Madre Street. The northbound I-25 ramps will also be closed.

During the closure, crews will be demolishing the old Interstate 25 bridge.

Drivers are encouraged to use the following detours:

  • Motorists traveling eastbound on US 24/Cimarron Street will take southbound I-25 to Nevada Avenue back to Cimarron Street or northbound I-25.
  • Motorists heading westbound on US 24/Cimarron Street will go north on Nevada Avenue to Bijou Street and take southbound I-25 back to US 24/Cimarron Street exit or merge onto the northbound I-25 on-ramp.

Between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, the detour route will change due to the Veterans Day parade:

  • Motorists traveling eastbound on US 24/Cimarron Street will take southbound I-25 to Nevada Avenue back to Cimarron Street or northbound I-25.
  • Motorists traveling westbound on US 24/Cimarron Street will use Sahwatch Street to westbound Colorado Avenue and head south on Limit Street back to US 24 or take southbound Nevada Avenue and merge onto northbound I-25.

The demolition is the next step in the the Interstate 25 and Cimarron Street interchange rebuilding project. The entire project is expected to be complete in fall 2017.
