Men break into hotel room, leave after realizing intended victims aren’t there

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Four men broke into a Colorado Springs hotel room early Thursday morning, then left after they realized their intended targets weren’t in the room, according to police.

It happened around 1:15 a.m. at a hotel on South Nevada Avenue. Police said the suspects forced themselves into the room and “quickly discovered they were attempting to rob the wrong family.”

Once they realized their mistake, the suspects made the victims wait in the bathroom while they left, according to police. The suspects left in an older-model red pickup truck.

Police said one of the suspects had a handgun. The victims did not recognize any of them.
