COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Halloween is over, but who’s going to eat all those pumpkins still out on doorsteps?
Before the squirrels get to them, why not donate?
What started out as an idea between Ashley Foxworthy and her roommate has turned into an even larger cause. Together, they started the Great Pumpkin Pickup, where all the pumpkins collected will go to farm animals.
“A lot of times, people carve their pumpkins, and then they rot, and they end up just throwing them in the trash, and it goes to great waste,” Foxworthy said.
In the last two days, Foxworthy has picked up 355 pumpkins.
“It can offset feed costs for goats, pigs, some horses will eat them. Up at the rescue we had sheep that eat them. The chickens will actually eat them,” Foxworthy said.
They will be collecting pumpkins until Sunday all through Colorado Springs, including Fountain, Falcon, Peyton and Monument.
If you’d like to donate, all you have to do is send your address to their Facebook page and leave your pumpkins at the end of your driveway.
