COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — FOX21 and the Colorado Springs Independent are teaming up once again for this year’s Give! campaign, highlighting local organizations that need your help.
On Tuesday we kick things off with Pikes Peak Urban Gardens, an organization that brings both young and old together building community gardens throughout the region.
Pikes Peak Urban Gardens also teaches classes once a month, instructing people how to grow their own fresh food.
Additionally, they also partner with Colorado Springs Food Rescue.
At this community garden on Arcadia Street near Fillmore, gardeners of all ages now work on the site, which includes a 70-foot greenhouse where food can be grown through three seasons.
“We’re asking folks through the Indy Give to donate $10, $20, $30, and if everyone did that that would be a big impact for our community,” said director Larry Stebbins. “The more funds we raise, the more community gardens we can build in local neighborhoods, just like this. It brings people together, they learn how to grow, they share some of the produce, and people become little better neighbors I think.”
Pikes Peak Urban Gardens says Indy Give! is their biggest fundraiser of the year and without it, they likely wouldn’t exist.
