Colorado Springs comic book store gives out freebies for Halloween

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Some people got ready for Halloween Saturday at Heroes Hub comic book store, where they gave away free comics.

It’s all part of a Halloween comic book fest, a national event encouraging local comic book stores to give them out for free, with no purchase necessary.

Customers came and and selected from about a dozen comics to take home.

“We try and do something once a month where we give out free comic books regardless of it’s a nationwide comic book participation or if it’s something local that we just give it back to the community,” co-owner Garnetta Bevins said. “People come in and they just seem to love it. The kids love it, and it helps promote reading.”

An estimated 500 books were given away. Anyone who came in costume got an extra book for free.
