COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police have arrested a man after he assaulted a police officer Friday.

It happened around 9 a.m. in the 400 block of West Colorado Avenue.

Police say an officer arrived at the scene and contacted the suspect, later identified as 51-year-old Steven Grzeskowia, on the steps of the church.

According to authorities, Grzeskowia was agitated and aggressive. He made a verbal threat to hit the officer, then swung at him and struck him in the arm.

Grzeskowia was transported to the hospital for complaints of shortness of breath.

He was evaluated by medical personnel and released, then transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for second degree assault on a peace officer, attempted second degree assault on a firefighter and possession of drug paraphernalia.
