Police department releases names of officers who shot, killed homicide suspect

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The officers who shot and killed a homicide suspect early Sunday morning have been identified.

The shooting happened just before 4 a.m. Sunday in the area of Boulder Street and Union Boulevard. Police were in the area looking for 40-year-old Demetrius Mac Moore, who was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Security the night before.

When the officers spotted Moore, he immediately fired a shot at them, injuring one. Three officers shot back, killing Moore.

Police said two El Paso County sheriff’s deputies and one Colorado Springs police officer shot at Moore. The deputies were identified as Christopher Donatell, who has been with the sheriff’s office since 2006, and Jeremy Juhl, who has been with the sheriff’s office since 2005. The officer was identified as Armando Newell, who has been with the police department since 2005.

The CSPD Deadly Force Investigation Team, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office are investigating the shooting.
