Man tries to steal car from woman, leaves after hearing baby crying inside

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A carjacking attempt was thwarted Tuesday night when the robber heard a baby crying inside the car, according to police.

It happened around 9 p.m. at the Antero Apartments in the area of Fountain Boulevard and Murray Boulevard. Police said a man got out of a car and approached a woman who was getting out of her car. The man threatened the victim with a gun and demanded her keys. When her baby, who was still inside the car, started crying, the man became angry and left, according to police. The woman then ran into a friend’s apartment and called police.

The suspect is described as a black man, possibly in his early 20s, wearing a dark-colored hoodie, skinny pants, and a dark face covering. He was a passenger in a four-door newer-model white Honda Civic. The driver was described as a Hispanic man with dark slicked-back hair, possibly in his early 20s. There was a third person in the back seat.

No suspects have been identified.
