Motorcyclist killed, one other injured in Black Forest crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — One person was killed in a crash in Black Forest Saturday afternoon, according to police.

It happened around 2 p.m. on Black Forest Road near Fox Trot Lane.

Police say a motorcycle traveling northbound on Black Forest Road encountered traffic congestion and attempted to pass the line of northbound cars by driving in the southbound lane.

The motorcycle struck a vehicle attempting to turn westbound onto Foxtrot Lane.

According to authorities, the motorcycle was traveling at a very high rate of speed.

The motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet but was killed in in the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries, which authorities say are not believed to be serious at this time.

Traffic on Black Forest Road between Vollmer Road and Cowpoke Road was shut down for the investigation.

This is the 24th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this year and the fifth motorcycle-related traffic fatality since October 3.

At this time last year, there were 23 traffic-related fatalities.
