CAÑON CITY, Colo — An attempted homicide suspect was arrested Thursday after a Department of Corrections employee spotted him on her way to work, according to police.

Anthony Malette, 54, was wanted on suspicion of physically assaulting his mother. Cañon City police released an alert Wednesday afternoon asking the public to be on the lookout for him.

Thursday morning, a Department of Corrections employee was driving to work when she saw someone who looked like Malette. Police said the employee had seen a wanted poster featuring Malette on her niece’s Facebook page.

The employee stopped at the Jump Start Java on East Main Street and asked employees to call police. Malette approached the window of the coffee shop, but the workers refused to open it. They called 911, and Malette was arrested without incident a short time later.

Malette is charged with crimes to an at-risk adult, first-degree assault, and attempted second-degree homicide.
