EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Peyton Tuesday.

It happened just before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Peyton Highway and Judge Orr Road.

Troopers say a 2008 Chevrolet Impala traveling south on the highway failed to stop at a stop sign, entering the intersection. The Chevrolet was struck by a 2005 Ford Expedition traveling west on Judge Orr Road.

Both vehicles traveled off the intersection through a barbed wire fence and continued through a field for a short distance, officials said.

The Ford went into a small pond with its front end submerged in the water while the Chevrolet came to rest on its wheels.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 55-year-old Kathleen Lamendola of Griffith, Indiana, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing her seatbelt.

A two-year-old passenger, William Campbell was restrained in a child seat and was not injured. He was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the Ford, 30-year-old Allison Seel of Calhan, suffered minor injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt. She was transported to a hospital as a precaution.

Seel’s passenger, one-year-old Abigail Seel, was in a child seat and was not injured in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing. At this time, alcohol and/or drug use is not considered to be a factor.

Colorado State Patrol is asking for any witnesses to the crash to contact Trooper Eric Zachareas at 719-544-2424.
