Man attempted to get into police cruiser after robbery, assault in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police have arrested a man in Colorado Springs after he assaulted another person and tried to get into a police cruiser before fleeing the scene on foot Sunday night.

It happened just after 6:30 p.m. in the 300 block of South Nevada Avenue.

Police say callers were reporting a man, later identified as 35-year-old George Uriah, assaulting a person on a bike and damaging vehicles traveling on Nevada Avenue.

Officers responding to the disturbance said Uriah attempted to enter a police cruiser from the passenger side, but the officer drove off.

According to authorities, they confronted Uriah on foot but he was uncooperative and was subsequently tased.

Police say he was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and was transported to Memorial Hospital.

Uriah was later booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for charges including assault, robbery, criminal mischief and burglary of a motor vehicle.

The victims who were assaulted suffered minor injuries. No officers were injured.
