Authorities investigate human remains found in Teller County as homicide

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. — Tourists discovered what was later confirmed to be human remains south of Divide Friday afternoon.

According to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office, the remains were discovered shortly after 4 p.m. in the Rainbow Valley area off Highway 67 south of Divide.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene and Forensic Services Unit responded and secured the area overnight until the search resumed Saturday morning.

Deputies later confirmed the remains were human.

Based on the autopsy, the victim is believed to be a white or Hispanic male in his late teens to early twenties. He is approximately 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 7 inches.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.
