PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. — Several agencies are battling the quick-moving Beulah Hill Fire, burning east of Beulah on both the north and south sides of Highway 78.

It’s currently burning in two directions – northwest and southeast – due to high winds in the area, according to officials with the U.S. Forest Service. The fire is zero percent contained.

Officials said federal and state resources are working to contain the 3,000-acre fire, along with support from multiple counties. Due to high winds, all air support has been grounded for the evening.

At least 7 structures have been destroyed, and officials said about 1,200 people have been ordered to evacuate.

“I watched it moving up and down the ridge there, I could tell it was hitting structures and stuff, but when it finally hit the top of the ridge, that’s when I went and got my son and his friends out of school,” said Leena Mather, an evacuee. “We went home and grabbed a suitcase full of clothes, my dog, my parakeet, my Bible, and we left.”

No injuries have been reported.

A Health Advisory has been issued in Pueblo County due to poor air quality and falling ash. Those with respiratory conditions are advised to stay indoors.

Residents in the Beulah Valley are being advised to evacuate the area, as per Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor.
