Walk a Mile in Her Shoes aims to raise awareness on domestic violence

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The third annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event kicked off on Fort Carson Saturday, marking the beginning of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The event gets men to walk in high heels for a mile.

While it might be funny to see guys doing this, there is a very serious reason behind it – to make a difference in the fight against domestic violence.

“We’re part of the problem and we need to recognize that, and we’re part of the solution, so domestic violence affects our families,” said Victor Rubio, a victim advocate. “It affects our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, so we’re definitely part of the solution and we need to be aware of that.”

Being part of the solution involves not standing by when you think domestic violence might be going on.

Don’t be afraid to call the police if you think someone you know might be at risk because of domestic violence.
