Officials investigating fatal single-car crash near Yoder

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single-car crash that killed a man Friday afternoon.

It happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Yoder Road about 6.5 miles south of Highway 94.

Authorities say a 2005 Ford Explorer was traveling southbound on Yoder Road when the driver lost control on the dirt roadway. The Explorer skidded, rotated clockwise off the right side of the road and hit a barbed fence before rolling and coming to rest on its top.

The passenger, identified as 32-year-old Catala Yudel of Yoder, was ejected out of the Explorer. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Catala was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver, 32-year-old Juan Suarez of Yoder, was not injured in the crash. He was wearing his seatbelt.

Speed and alcohol / drugs are not considered factors in this crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
