PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a motorcycle driver Friday night.

It happened after 5 p.m. on northbound I-25, about four miles south of Colorado City.

Officials say a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup was traveling northbound in the left lane of I-25 when it drifted into the right lane, colliding with a 2006 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Trike traveling northbound.

The motorcycle traveled off the east side, rolling one time and ejecting both occupants.

The pickup initially continued traveling north but later returned to the scene.

The driver of the pickup, 63-year-old Joe Madrid of Alamosa, was uninjured in the crash.

The driver of the motorcycle, 76-year-old John Romero of Pueblo, was pronounced dead on scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The passenger of the motorcycle, 57-year-old Laura Romero of Pueblo, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Officials say drug use is being considered a contributing factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
