Pueblo jail inmate accused in murder-for-hire plot

PUEBLO, Colo. — A Pueblo County jail inmate and another person have been arrested for a murder-for-hire plot, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver.

Reina Gonzales, 28, of Pueblo, and Ricardo Estevan Suazo, who is in the Pueblo County jail, are charged with conspiracy to commit a murder-for-hire.

According to court documents, on September 9, an informant told police that Suazo planned to hire someone to kill a witness in his criminal case. Suazo was facing charges for shooting the witness in the stomach.

When an undercover agent called Suazo, Suazo told the agent to contact “his girl” on the outside for instructions on the job. The agent called the “girl,” who turned out to be Gonzales. Gonzales talked about hiring the agent to kill the witness, according to court documents. Gonzales said they’d pay the agent $10,000 to pull off the job.

Eventually Gonzales stopped talking to the agent. Suazo then told her to help bond out another jail inmate who would carry out the murder-for-hire. The inmate didn’t bond out, and Suazo and Gonzales were both charged.

The suspects are due back in court October 5. Both will remain in federal custody until then.
