Woman sentenced in fatal hit-and-run in Walmart parking lot

UPDATE: On Monday, December 19, Rebecca Jeanette Champigny was sentenced to 24 years in prison, followed by 5 years mandatory parole for the 2015 death of Jenny Carrillo.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A woman has been convicted of multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident involving death, in connection with a 2015 hit-and-run crash outside a Fountain Walmart.

Rebecca Champigny, 28, was found guilty Thursday. She will be sentenced on December 19.

The crash happened in March 2015 at the Walmart on Highway 85/87. Police said Champigny was driving a stolen car through the parking lot when she hit a woman who was in the crosswalk. The woman, 67-year-old Jenny Carrillo, died at a hospital.

Champigny left the parking lot and hit at least one other car before she was arrested.
