PEYTON, Colo. — A Peyton man who was wanted on felony charges was arrested after a short standoff at his home Thursday evening.

Deputies said they went to a home in the area of North Peyton Highway and Murphy Road to arrest David Aldrich, 32. Aldrich was wanted for theft from at-risk adults. Previous attempts to arrest him had been unsuccessful.

Around 5:30 p.m., deputies saw Aldrich get out of a friend’s car and walk into the home. Deputies surrounded the home and used a PA system to tell Aldrich to come out. Neighbors told deputies they knew Aldrich had guns in the home because they’d seen him shooting them within the past few weeks.

When Aldrich didn’t respond after about 20 minutes, SWAT was activated. Aldrich came out of the house around 6:39 p.m. and was arrested without further incident. He is charged with possession of a weapon by a previous offender and two counts of domestic violence/violation of a protection order, along with the original warrant.

Deputies searched Aldrich’s home and found two guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, military body armor, and a live 25mm canon round. They gave the canon round to the explosives unit for disposal.
