COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Deputies are investigating after a man was shot during a fight near Fort Carson Thursday night.

The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.

Deputies said around 8:15 p.m. Thursday, they got several calls about shots fired on Loomis Avenue. The callers reported the shots came from the area of Stratmoor Hills Elementary, and there were people running from the area.

Deputies also got a call from someone at the Fort Carson gate, who told them a man had come to the gate with apparent gunshot wounds.

When deputies arrived, they talked to a witness who lives near the school. The witness said he was in his backyard when he saw a shooting just across the street. The shooting happened under a gazebo at the Hampton Village Apartments, according to the witness. After the shooting, one of the people involved jumped a fence and ran south on B Street, toward Fort Carson. The others ran into a nearby apartment.

Deputies learned the victim had been drinking in the gazebo area when three men approached. One of the men pulled out a gun and tried to shoot him. A fight broke out, and the gun went off during the struggle, according to deputies.

Deputies found blood spatters and shell casings near the gazebo.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
