Thousands gather in Memorial Park to honor fallen firefighters

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The annual ceremony honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice was held at Memorial Park Saturday.

Thousands of people came to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial, remembering the men and women who lost their lives during or after fighting fires across the United States and Canada.

A total of 123 firefighters’ names have now been added to the Wall of Honor.

People from all across North America gathered together as the name of each fallen firefighter was read aloud.

The names added this year include 10 who died from chronic illnesses linked to their recovery work at the 9/11 Ground Zero site in lower Manhattan.
