Southern Colorado Construction Career Day held in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Nearly 600 high schoolers got to try their hand in the construction industry Thursday.

Students from all over southern Colorado and New Mexico were at the ninth annual Southern Colorado Construction Career Day. It offered them a chance to get hands-on experience in construction before they graduate high school.

“We are teaming up with other contractors to try to spark some interest for students that are graduating high school that may not want to go to college,” Nick Verdi from Colorado Springs Utilities said.

Since holding the first event in 2008, the industry has seen more women in construction, and more interns.
