Police looking for burglary suspect who slept inside Colorado Springs business overnight

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police are looking for a suspect who stole items from a Colorado Springs business Wednesday after sleeping there overnight.

It happened shortly before 8 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Circle Drive near the Spring Creek Shopping Center.

Authorities say when they arrived in the area they were advised that the suspect(s) was armed with a black handgun and was fleeing the area on foot.

Officers began setting up a perimeter while K9 units were en route to the scene.

Police say they received initial information indicating there was one suspect was on foot and another was possibly locked inside by employees.

Police searched the area but could not locate the suspect.

Several key items of evidence were collected at the scene and along the suspect’s trail, according to authorities.

Police confirmed there was one suspect – a white male – who had spent the night inside the business and stolen numerous items.

School District 2 locked down schools in the area while officers searched for the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.
