Remains of missing Minnesota boy found 27 years after kidnapping

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — It’s a story that’s been developing for nearly three decades.

Investigators say they’ve found the body of a missing boy who caught national headlines in 1989.

Eleven-year-old Jacob Wetterling was abducted in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Now 27 years later, police are saying a suspect in his disappearance led the FBI to the remains.

Forensic experts confirmed Saturday that those remains are Jacob’s.

As Kate Raddatz reports, the abduction changed a lot in his hometown, and the nation.

Jacob’s abduction led to the federal law that requires states to maintain sex offender registries.

Investigators are not saying yet if anyone has been charged; there is still no official word on who the suspect is.
