Pueblo County reports first case of West Nile virus

Pueblo County has confirmed this year’s first human case of West Nile virus.

“The Department confirmed yesterday a mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus in Pueblo County. It is very important every individual take precautions to avoid the West Nile virus illness,” said Jody Carrillo, division director of Environmental Health and Emergency Preparedness of the Pueblo City-County Health Department

The Pueblo City-County Health Department announced Thursday that a laboratory confirmed the case in an unidentified person.  West Nile virus can affect any age group.

There were a total of four human cases of the virus last year in Pueblo. So far this year, the state of Colorado has seen 17 human cases in 11 different counties.
