Homeless sexually violent predator moves to Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police are notifying the public about a homeless sexually violent predator who recently moved to Colorado Springs.

James Patrick Dauer Jr., 58, moved here from Pennsylvania. He is homeless and will be staying in the area of the Springs Rescue Mission on West Las Vegas Street.

Dauer was convicted of involuntary deviant sexual intercourse – person less than 13 years old and sexual assault in Pennsylvania in 2002. He was also convicted of aggravated sexual assault in Texas in 1985 and 1989. Police said he had sexual contact with several children.

Dauer is described as a white man, about 6 feet tall and 270 pounds, with gray hair and hazel eyes. He has a star tattoo on his left arm and chest, and a scar on his left chest. He is unemployed and does not have a vehicle.

Dauer is one of 16 sexually violent predators living in Colorado Springs, and one of five who is homeless.

Sexually violent predators are considered the highest-risk sex offenders. Police are required to notify the public when a person who has been categorized as a sexually violent predator moves to a different address.
