DENVER, Colo. — A private security force will begin patrolling the 16th Street Mall starting Thursday.

The move comes after a spike of violence on the mall and several attacks were caught on camera.

On June 29, video of a man swinging a long pipe, hitting people caught the attention of city leaders.

Days before that incident, a businessman was attacked by people in broad daylight.

The city says it has increased police patrols and has created 240 action items that will be part of its security plan.
