Robert Dear’s competency reevaluated in court

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The competency of admitted Planned Parenthood shooter Robert Lewis Dear was reviewed in court Thursday.

After receiving treatment for three months at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo, he is still incompetent to stand trial.

Dear didn’t make the trip up to the Springs for the hearing over concerns it might interfere with his treatment.

Previously, doctors found Dear has a delusional disorder, which doesn’t allow him to effectively communicate and work with his defense team.

He’s been under watch 24 hours a day during his treatment. He will now undergo another 90 days of treatment to try and restore his mental state to a place where he can stand trial.

That puts him back in court on November 17. That’s only 10 days before the one-year anniversary of when Dear admittedly killed Jennifer Markovsky, Ke’arre Stewart, and Officer Garret Swasey.

At that hearing the court will also make decisions on two motions. One concerns the ability to force Dear to take his medication. The other is trying to prevent him from talking to the media.
